Miklos Gaál
Photographer Miklos Gaál grapples with a contradiction: that major differences exist between objective basic principles for orientation in the world and subjective perception. To that end, he photographs public spaces, hubs of city life, such as the municipal park, the highway interchange, the urban canyon, and the marketplace. He often works from a bird’s-eye view, mimicking a hawk’s gaze. It is this perspective that lends his conceptual photographs depth and luminosity.
What is revealed, however, is not an overview but rather a deeper view into what makes a place special. Only grad-ually do we discover the art of his com-position, where romanticism meets trash, hyper-focus meets blur, manipulation meets chance. In this way Miklos Gaál works with the camera like a painter, exploring, touching, and penetrating the world through photography.
